Iraqi authorities hang 35 ISIL members

Iraqi authorities have hanged 35 men convicted of murdering around 1,700 military recruits at a former US base in 2014, the BBC reported, according to the Patria News Agency.

The massacre at the Speicher military base near Tikrit was committed by ISIL extremists when they seized territory in northern Iraq.
The horror of the massacre of mostly Shiite cadets helped mobilize the Shiite militia in the fight against ISIL.

ISIL extremists published photos and video documentation of the massacre in 2014. Mass graves were found a year later. The graves were discovered when Iraqi forces recaptured the area.

"The execution of 35 convicts for the Speicher crime was carried out this morning in Nasiriyah prison," a spokesman for the provincial government in Dhi Qar, whose capital is Nasiriyah, told the France Press news agency, Index reports.
