Inzko: US has not given up on BiH, OHR remains and I may use Bonn powers

(Patria) - High Representative Valentin Inzko said that he has the support of the US administration for the use of Bonn powers, and that he was asked to do so last time he was at the UN Security Council, with the Germans also supporting it.

"I am in favour of good domestic solutions being the best, but if the situation continues like this, the mood of the international community will change and the use of Bonn powers will be sought, not because of us, but because of the interests of the people. To be honest, the mood for using Bonn powers is greater now than five years ago, but no decision has been made yet," Inzko told N1.

When asked how he commented on the meeting between Čović and Izetbegović tomorrow regarding the Election Law, Inzko said that it was agreed in Mostar to receive the draft Election Law by the end of the year, and the amended Law by the end of 2021.

"Also, it was agreed to respect all judgments of domestic and international courts. I don't think there will be concrete results tomorrow, but it is important to establish trust between HDZ and SDA, as well as trust between Croats and Bosniaks," he said.

Inzko said that the US has not lost interest in BiH.

"Every time Palmer comes to BiH, he comes to provide American support. Despite all the crises in the world that are much larger than the one in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Palmer found time to come to BiH and I am grateful to him. He said he would come again in three or four weeks," Inzko added.

The High Representative emphasized that it is not yet time to close the OHR.

"It is not yet time to close the OHR. As for the reform of the BiH Constitution - it is time. When there is a positive assessment of the political situation in the country and full implementation of Dayton - then it will be time to close the OHR. We cannot say now that it is time to close it, especially given the secessionist rhetoric," Inzko concluded.
