Inzko called for compromise on election law amendments

SARAJEVO, (Patria) High Representative Valentin Inzko met today with the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Dragan Čović, at his invitation. The High Representative and the Chairman of the Presidency had a substantive discussion on the current political situation and the challenges facing Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has been given a historic opportunity to link its future with the future of the European Union. Political actors should seize this opportunity to focus on issues that are important for citizens and for the country as a whole. In this regard, the High Representative congratulated BiH institutions on reaching an agreement regarding the European Commission's questionnaire.

The High Representative reiterated the stance that has long been advocated by the OHR and the wider international community, stating that "political parties should concentrate their efforts on finding a solution in the Ljubić case, which will enable the smooth conduct of the general elections in 2018 and the implementation of election results without significant delays."

- I call on the parties to use the engagement of EU and US representatives and engage in constructive efforts to reach a compromise.

The High Representative also emphasized that the OHR has been assisting political parties for years in finding solutions for the elections in Mostar. It is of essential importance that political parties reach a healthy compromise that will enable the citizens of Mostar to vote as soon as possible.
