Inzko visits Governor Softić: Challenging CBBiH is unacceptable

High Representative Valentin Inzko and the first deputy High Representative and Brčko Supervisor Bruce G. Berton today visited the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBiH) and met with the Governor of the Central Bank, Senad Softić. The topics of discussion were monetary policy, monetary and financial stability, and macroeconomic indicators for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Patria reports.

High Representative Inzko and First Deputy Berton expressed the continued and unequivocal support of the Office of the High Representative for the Central Bank of BiH and its political independence and autonomy, emphasizing how much they value the professionalism of that institution and the work it does in the interest of BiH and its citizens.

Governor Softić took the opportunity to inform his interlocutors about the current activities of the Central Bank, including the management of foreign exchange reserves, activities on improving registries, and cash management. The interlocutors also touched upon the topic of European integration, given that the Central Bank of BiH plays a significant role in that process.

- The Central Bank of BiH is not only a Dayton institution; it is the only institution responsible for monetary policy in BiH. It is an example of success in BiH and is of key importance for the stability of the country. That is precisely why any challenge to the Central Bank and the established and functional arrangements that guarantee monetary and financial stability is unacceptable - said High Representative Inzko.

He also reminded that the Central Bank has built an excellent reputation, and the main elements of its success are its professionalism and independence from politics. Therefore, it is imperative that this institution does not become the subject of public debate and continues its successful work.
