Institute for Genocide Research Canada Demands Resignation of Srebrenica Mayor

(Patria) - The Institute for Genocide Research Canada has demanded the resignation of the Mayor of Srebrenica Municipality, Mladen Grujičić, after he stated that the life sentence for Radovan Karadžić, handed down by the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts in The Hague, represents a continuation of the demonization of the Serbian people and the belittling of Serbian victims.  

“On behalf of genocide researchers and human rights and freedoms activists, members of the International Expert Team of the Institute for Genocide Research Canada, on behalf of truth and justice, on behalf of a better future for Srebrenica, the symbol of the greatest crime after the Holocaust in Europe, a crime that you celebrate, we demand that you immediately resign from the honorable position of Mayor of Srebrenica Municipality,” the letter states, signed by the Director of the Institute, Emir Ramić.  

The letter also states that Srebrenica should never have been placed under the administrative-political jurisdiction of Mayor Grujičić, because, as emphasized, Grujičić does not recognize the UN court, while considering the ideologues and perpetrators of genocide as heroes.

“Your attitude towards the verdicts of the highest legal authorities in the world, the UN courts, your denial of these verdicts and the celebration of criminals is a destructive political affirmation of genocide in the name of denying genocide and glorifying convicted war criminals, all with the aim of humiliating and intimidating genocide survivors,” reads the reaction of the Institute for Genocide Research Canada, which was also sent to the political structures in Canada, the United States, the European Union, and the United Nations.

“One who denies international law and justice, one who denies adjudicated genocide, who celebrates war criminals considering them heroes, one who does not treat all citizens equally cannot be the mayor of Srebrenica, the city symbol of the greatest crime after World War II in Europe,” concludes the letter from the Institute for Genocide Research Canada.
