Institute for Genocide Research Canada: When Bosnia and Herzegovina is threatened, we are all threatened

(Patria) - On the occasion of December 10th, Human Rights Day, the Institute for Genocide Research Canada (IGK), in cooperation with several organizations and communities in Canada, sent an urgent letter to the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau regarding the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the violation of basic human rights and freedoms of citizens and peoples in BiH.

The letter was also sent to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Melanie Joly, members of both houses of the Canadian Parliament and ministers in the Government of Canada, as well as the Executive Director of the Institute for Genocide and Human Rights at the University of Montreal and the Executive Director of Amnesty International Canada.

In the letter, the IGK appeals to the Parliament and Government of Canada to more strongly condemn the continuous attacks on the state of BiH and to take concrete measures against the anti-state policy of Milorad Dodik and his followers in order to ensure the preservation of the state of BiH.

As a NATO member and a leader in international peace and humanitarian efforts, Canada is called upon to pay much greater attention to BiH in its foreign policy. Canada is called upon to support BiH's path to Euro-Atlantic integration, to sanction deniers of the state of BiH, deniers of genocide, revisionists of judicial facts about genocide, and glorifiers of convicted war criminals.

Canada's commitment to peace and security around the world has always been important in Canada's foreign policy. This approach is particularly needed today towards BiH in order to prevent a new war, aggression, and genocide, to ensure the application of the principle of "never again", and especially so that BiH never again faces the horror of genocide.

When Bosnia and Herzegovina is threatened, we are all threatened. When world state voices fall silent towards the denial of the state of BiH and the denial of genocide, there is no justice, injustice reigns. On Human Rights Day, let us all be inspired by the fighters, activists, and patriots who are fighting for the protection of the territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence, and political-legal subjectivity of BiH, a state whose existence makes the world more beautiful, peaceful, and free. And let's not forget that each of us can be a fighter for human rights and freedoms. Use your freedom to promote the freedoms of others. Only together can we prevent new genocides and preserve the great and significant Bosnian-Herzegovinian state tradition.
