Inspection to begin removing illegal illuminated signs in Baščaršija

Inspectors from the Old Town Municipality will begin removing illegally installed illuminated signs on the facades and roofs of buildings in the protected area of "Baščaršija". The decision was made by the Mayor of the Old Town Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, due to the fact that the Federal Inspectorate, which is responsible for removing these signs, does not have funds allocated in its budget, and that no federal inspector has reacted on the ground so far, reports Patria News Agency.

- We cannot allow the heart of the Old Town to be turned into an eyesore. The Federal Inspectorate does not have funds allocated in its budget for these activities, which is why we informed them at the beginning of August that the Old Town Municipality has allocated funds in its budget for the municipal inspection. We also requested that they transfer the jurisdiction over signs in the protected area of "Baščaršija" to the urban planning and construction inspection of the Old Town Municipality. Since we have not received a response to this day, even though they have not transferred the jurisdiction to us, we are proceeding with the action - said the Mayor of the Municipality.

- All illegally installed illuminated signs will be removed, even if I, as the mayor, am held responsible for it. I will never allow anything to be done illegally in the Old Town area, and everyone must start learning that the law must be respected - explicitly stated the Mayor of the Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić.
