Inspection and MUP KS continue control of taxi drivers, passengers will also be fined

Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton informs interested parties that as of March 3, 2016, the issuance of supplementary taxi markings for performing taxi activities in the area of Sarajevo Canton begins, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The relevant Ministry has created a complete record of taxi operators and updated the lists of all those who have already settled their obligations to the state or do so regularly, in accordance with prescribed procedures.

After the issuance of supplementary taxi markings, along with traffic inspection, in accordance with the new competencies acquired through amendments to the Law on Internal Affairs, the police of the MUP of Sarajevo Canton will also conduct round-the-clock controls of taxi transport starting next week.

Only taxi operators who have a supplementary taxi marking of Sarajevo Canton displayed in a visible place in their vehicle and with „TA“ license plates will be legal and authorized to perform this activity.

It is important to note that the inspection and MUP of Sarajevo Canton will also sanction passengers who use the services of illegal taxi operators, in accordance with the cantonal Law on Taxi Transport, which in Article 58 provides for a fine of 50 KM for such an offense. At the same time, the Ministry of Transport requests all taxi operators and associations to respect the rules on passenger rights, according to which a taxi driver must not refuse short rides, and special attention should be paid to the calculation of the price for so-called long rides, such as the route from Sarajevo Airport to the city center.

If passengers record such a violation of the rules, they should inform the taxi association or other legal entity performing this activity or the competent cantonal inspection. In case of violation of passenger rights, in accordance with federal regulations, the offender is subject to the revocation of the taxi marking and permit for performing taxi activities.

The Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton will soon propose amendments to the Law on Taxi Transport for the purpose of comprehensive regulation of the area of performing taxi activities in Sarajevo Canton. (av)
