INITIATIVES Obradović: FBiH Government should protect the interests of people in the lower Neretva basin

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Member of the Independent Bloc in the Federation Parliament Amer Obradović today sent an initiative to the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to get involved and protect the interests of the entity and citizens in the activities undertaken by the RS Government on the "Gornji Horizonti" project.

"Namely, on December 31, 2021, the RS Government adopted a decision granting a guarantee of the BiH entity of Republika Srpska for the credit indebtedness of the Hydroelectric Power Plant 'Dabar' d.o.o. Trebinje with the Export-Import Bank of China in the amount of 189,409,002 euros for the construction of the remaining facilities of this hydroelectric plant. This is a project that envisages the transfer of water from the Gatačko and Nevesinjsko fields, via the Dabarsko and Fatničko fields, into the accumulation of Bilećko Lake, which has significant consequences for watercourses in the Federation of BiH entity, especially for the watercourses of the Bregava, Buna and Bunica rivers, and thus the Neretva. The Federation Government is obliged to react and must do everything within its competence to stop the impending major environmental disaster. The Federation Government should also alert the state level, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to consider all possible consequences for all citizens in the Neretva and Trebišnjica basin, and in particular has an obligation to get involved due to relations with the Republic of Croatia, i.e., the Croatian Electric Power Company (HEP) and the Chinese company China Energy

The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina must protect the interests of citizens in the lower Neretva river basin, and engagement of ministries in this area is needed, as well as the Agency for the Adriatic Sea Water Area. It is unacceptable for one entity to implement projects and interventions on watercourses that significantly affect the ecosystems and lives of citizens in another entity, while that entity does nothing to protect its own, and above all the interests of the people living there, and therefore it is necessary to react and alert domestic and international systems that implement international conventions in the field of environmental and water protection," said the initiator and federal representative Amer Obradović.
