Mural for Balašević in Sarajevo Initiative

Ahmed Kosovac, councilor of Our Party in the Municipal Council of Novo Sarajevo, will submit an initiative for painting a mural in honor of Đorđe Balašević in the Novo Sarajevo area.

"Đorđe Balašević holds a recognizable and prominent place in the memory of most Sarajevans. This was known during his lifetime, but his death confirmed that Sarajevo identifies with his creative work as well as his anti-war engagement almost entirely, and that he is undoubtedly one of the people we are ready, regardless of our ideological or political affiliation, to recommend as an identifying landmark for future generations.

There is already talk of renaming streets, bridges, squares, etc., in his name. I have absolutely nothing against it. However, what I propose, both for faster realization and for added artistic value, is a representative mural. We already have murals dedicated to Davorin Popović and David Bowie in Sarajevo. They were done very well, people enjoy looking at them, and they also tell tourists a lot about our city. Balašević himself would surely be pleased to be in the company of these two greats, and it would also show everyone which rank of greatness we place him in. This also outlines the further path of mural painting and demands that for this form of artistic expression, we insist on very high quality both in the theme of the mural and its realization."
