Initiatives: Will the Council of Ministers Draft a National Security Strategy?

At the session of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 5, the agenda includes consideration of a parliamentary initiative by Denis Bećirović, submitted on May 10 this year, which reads: „The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina is tasked with drafting and submitting to the parliamentary procedure the National Security Strategy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, no later than six months from the date of adoption of this initiative in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina“, writes Patria.

The parliamentary initiative requests the Council of Ministers to draft and submit this strategy to the parliamentary procedure no later than six months from the date of adoption of the initiative in the House.
 
As assessed, such a strategy represents the most important strategic document that establishes the foundations of security policy and the protection of BiH's national interests.
 
Bećirović believes that the starting point of the Strategy should be the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, economic prosperity, social stability, development of democracy and the rule of law, respect for human rights, Euro-Atlantic foreign policy orientation, and improvement of cooperation with the most influential subjects of the international community.
 
- The text of the National Security Strategy should confirm BiH's commitment to general democratic values, international law, building and improving regional and global security - the SDP deputy believes.
 
Furthermore, the Strategy should provide an analysis of BiH's environment, identify security challenges, risks and threats, determine national interests, set goals, basic principles and elements of national security policy.
