Initiative to Erect a Memorial Plaque for Amina Šabanagić

Ermin Karić, president of the Association for a Better Sanski Most (UGSM), received an initiative today from Konjic, which, among other things, calls for the construction of a monument to the murdered Amina Šabanagić, reports the Patria News Agency.

- Given the exceptional importance of the work done by the Association of Citizens for a Better Sanski Most to improve their environment and interpersonal relationships, respecting every good deed you have done for vulnerable fellow citizens, and inspired by the testimony of Zekija and Mirsad Šabanagić, parents of the murdered Amina Šabanagić from Sanski Most, we have decided to approach you with an initiative to launch activities through which you will, in cooperation with the competent services of the municipality of Sanski Most, bring to fruition the parents' wish to erect a Memorial to their murdered child – the initiative states.

Namely, as early as 2009, Mirsad and Zekija Šabanagić sent a request to the Municipal Council (OV) of Sanski Most to initiate the erection of a memorial plaque on Liljan Square, where Amina Šabanagić was last seen alive on May 19, 2004. Unfortunately, the Collegium of the Municipal Council of Sanski Most refused to put this initiative on the agenda.

Although nothing can bring back the brutally murdered Amina, nor offer solace to her loved ones, the clarification of this, one of the most mysterious post-war murders in Bosnia and Herzegovina, by investigators of the Federal Police Administration, greatly restores faith in the police and gives hope to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina that no crime will remain unsolved, and its perpetrators will be brought to justice.

The Court of the Supreme Court of the Federation of BiH today issued a verdict sentencing Admir Karabegović to 35 years in prison for the rape and murder of Amina Šabanagić in May 2004.
