Initiative My Address: Srebrenica - OHR to dismiss Grujičić

(Patria) - Members of the initiative My Address Srebrenica held a press conference regarding the fact that at the ceremony marking the Day of the Municipality of Srebrenica on March 11, in the front row sat a member of the Scorpions units and convicted war criminal Saša Cvjetan, as reported by Istraga.ba.

At today's extraordinary press conference, Alija Tabaković, Ćamil Duraković and Sadik Ahmetović from the Initiative My Address: Srebrenica stated that the presence of the criminal Cvjetan in Srebrenica on the Municipality Day chills the blood of surviving genocide victims.

"I call on the OHR to dismiss such a mayor," Duraković emphasized.

He said that March 11 was taken as the Day of the Municipality as the day when Srebrenica was liberated from fascism.

"It is frightening that on such a day, in the front row of the ceremony, sits a convicted war criminal. We Bosniaks consider that day symbolic because it is the day of liberation from fascism, but what Mayor Grujičić did is at least frightening," said Duraković.

He emphasized that he sat a few meters from the war criminal Saša Cvjetan, but did not recognize him, and only later, after a journalist's inquiry, was he convinced it was him.

Saša Cvjetan, a member of the Scorpions unit, spent 16 years in prisons in Serbia before being released on parole on March 22, 2018. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for war crimes against Albanian civilians in Podujevo, committed in March 1999. He was found guilty of murdering 14 Albanian civilians, women and children, members of the Bogujevci family.

Sadik Ahmetović called on the Quint ambassadors, the European Union, the OSCE and domestic politicians to put the issue of Srebrenica on the table within the negotiations on amending the Election Law.

"Will the entire Scorpions team come to Srebrenica next time? To prevent that from happening, it is very important and I call on the Quint ambassadors, the European Union, the OSCE, domestic politicians and others to include Srebrenica on the table within the amendment of the Election Law," Ahmetović emphasized.
