Amer Obradović's Initiative: 'Federal Development Index' as a Basis for Policy Creation

(Patria) - At today's session of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, MP Amer Obradović (Independent Bloc) will submit an initiative to establish a "federal development index" as a parameter on the basis of which special support policies for local communities in this entity will be created. In addition, the federal development index would in perspective also serve as a basis for adopting laws on balanced development in the FBiH.

This initiative has been sent to the Federal Bureau of Statistics, which would be responsible for preparing solutions and proposing a methodology for calculating this index as a reference value that would indicate the degree of development of a particular local community. Ultimately, competent federal institutions would, following the example of modern European practice, have guidelines according to which priorities in the creation of development policies would be defined.

Currently, the absence of a federal development index makes it impossible to draft proactive regulations that would follow EU good practices in this area. Adopting such an approach would be an excellent step towards reducing inequalities in development between individual regions, cantons, or local communities in the Federation.

"Balanced development is one of the most important guidelines of the European Union's policy and the focus of the Independent Bloc's activities. By adopting this initiative and establishing the 'federal development index', the Federation of BiH, in accordance with its competencies, could more effectively plan, implement, and coordinate development policy activities," Obradović said in the explanation of the initiative.
