The Central Board of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has allowed female and male players to compete wearing turbans and hijabs, and the decision is the result of an initiative launched in the United States by basketball player of Bosnian origin Indira Kaljo, who herself wears a hijab, and which was supported by tens of thousands of people around the world by signing an online petition, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.
Kaljo received congratulations from numerous personalities, as well as from independent candidate Dr. Mustafa Cerić for the Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- I congratulate our Indira Kaljo who changed the rules! We are proud of you - wrote Dr. Cerić on his Twitter profile.
Kaljo's response soon followed, in which she thanked everyone for their support.
- Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This means a lot to me and to everyone!! I wish you all the best - she wrote.
The new rules apply from today for a period of two years.
