Has the most support from the base: Nikšić new president of SDP

Delegates of the extraordinary Congress of the SDP, which will be held on December 6, will elect a new leadership of the party, and for the president, they will be able to choose among five candidates whose candidacies have been verified by the Main Board at today's session in Sarajevo. The candidacies of Nermin Nikšić, Selim Bešlagić, Besima Borić, Svetozar Pudarić, and Mirko Pejanović have been verified, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Nikšić had the largest number of proposals from the field, so it was heard in the party circles today that he will most likely be the new president of the SDP.

Otherwise, the Main Board of the SDP, at today's session in Sarajevo, also adopted the proposal for unification with the Union of Social Democrats, led by Miro Lazović, with 50 votes for, 13 against, and 11 abstentions, and from December 6, it will operate under the name Social Democratic Party of BiH.

This means that out of 110 members of the Congress, 10 percent will be co-opted from this party, and three members of the USD would also enter the Presidency of the SDP.

Zlatko Lagumdžija, who is the president of the SDP for another seven days, until the election of a new one, announced that a resolution will be adopted at the extraordinary Congress, inviting other political parties of social democratic orientation to join the SDP.

-The decision stems from the commitment to expand the social democratic front - said Lagumdžija, adding that this has been discussed before.

The Main Board adopted amendments to the Statute, and how the leadership will be elected is left to the delegates of the extraordinary Congress to decide.

There are two models of election - according to one, every member of the SDP decides on the leadership, and according to the other, every member of the SDP elects delegates for the Congress at which the president, i.e., the entire leadership, will be elected.

The extraordinary Congress, at which a new leadership will be elected, will be held on December 6, and 570 delegates will attend.
