Ikanović: There is a solution for the language, but the RS Government does not see it

Regarding the latest meeting of parent representatives and the Minister of Education and Culture of the RS, Edin Ikanović, coordinator for discrimination in education of the Coalition Prvi mart, also spoke out, reports the Patria news agency.

-I believe that a certain step forward has been made, but that Minister Malešević objectively does not have the mandate to negotiate to the end on the issue of discrimination in education.

Namely, we must not have illusions that twenty years of systemic policy of denying the name of the Bosnian language will be undone by a meeting in Kravica. This is a matter for the Constitutional Court of BiH, which remained inconclusive on the issue of the names of official languages and thus left room for manipulation, said Ikanović.

-I would like to have an official position of the RS Government guaranteeing that all three languages will be treated equally. If you want to call languages according to the RS Constitution, then there is no Serbian language either, but rather the language of the Serbian people.

If there were will in the system of integration in education, and if the minister had broader horizons, since he already does not have the mandate to recognize something that the Constitutional Court of BiH should have recognized long ago, he would propose that the naming of all three languages, i.e., Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian, be removed from the school system, so that all would be placed in an equal position, proceed with changes to the names of textbooks and subjects, and ensure that students have the right to use all three standards and both scripts.

Imagine what a step forward that would be compared to the fascist, segregationist, and discriminatory policy we witness today in education in BiH. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that anyone has the courage to make such a move, concluded Ikanović.
