IGC: Resolution on the Srebrenica genocide is an opportunity for Serbia to face the truth and justice

(Patria) - The Institute for Genocide Research Canada {IGC} welcomes the announcement of the consideration of the Resolution on the Srebrenica genocide before the United Nations General Assembly.

"We express gratitude to the sponsors of the proposal, the Republic of Rwanda and the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as to many other entities who have worked strongly on this.

Through the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, the world should reject and ignore the denial of legal, historical and scientific facts about the Srebrenica genocide, the glorification of convicted war criminals for genocide, and confirm the importance of education about the Srebrenica genocide in countries around the world.

The Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly is a confirmation of the legal facts about the Srebrenica genocide established by the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. The Resolution should have been adopted much earlier, given the moral and civilizational collapse of the United Nations, which allowed the greatest crime in Europe after the Second World War to be committed in their protected zone in the presence of United Nations blue helmets," state from the IGC.

They further state that this resolution is not against Serbia, and even less against the Serbian people.

"This is a Resolution that wants to help Serbia face the truth and justice about the Srebrenica genocide.

For the adoption of the Resolution, it is necessary to secure 2/3 of the votes from the 193 member states of the United Nations. This means that support from at least 129 member states is needed. This is not a simple task, but we believe that the international community will find the strength to support the truth, justice and legal facts established before international and national courts and will call for the adoption of July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide.

The adoption of the Resolution on Srebrenica in the United Nations General Assembly is a historic chance for a better future for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the world, where peace, truth and justice will have a greater chance than hatred, lies and guilt. The Resolution can be a good foundation for the much-needed process of coming to terms with the past, building new hope for dialogue and peace on the foundations of truth, justice and the institutionalization of a culture of remembrance, and an opportunity to at least reduce daily politicization, denial of genocide, glorification of convicted war criminals and the violation of dignified remembrance of the victims of genocide.

The IGC, through its International Expert Team, which numbers more than 300 members from over 60 countries around the world, will continue the intensive process of advocating for the successful adoption of the Resolution," they conclude.
