IGK: Release of Ljubomir Borovčanin is a defeat for international justice and truth

The early release of war criminal Ljubomir Borovčanin is a defeat for international justice and truth, announced the Institute for Genocide Research Canada (IGK), reports Patria.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia sentenced Ljubomir Borovčanin to 17 years in prison for aiding and participating in extermination, murder, persecution and forcible deportation of Srebrenica Bosniaks in July 1995. The same court released the war criminal Ljubomir Borovčanin, deputy commander of the Special Police Brigade of the MUP of the smaller Bosnian-Herzegovinian entity, after serving two-thirds of his sentence.

This unjust, inhumane, shameful decision is a defeat for international justice, an insult and humiliation to the victims, an attack on truth and justice, and a complete undermining of the work and downfall of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. 
It is a heavy blow to the truth about crimes and criminals and to justice for victims of crimes, not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but throughout the world. The release of the criminal Ljubomir Borovčanin on early release represents a great risk to the return of reconciliation and the re-establishment of the process of acceptance, recognition, respect and tolerance of the other and different in Bosnian-Herzegovinian society. The decision is a kind of reward for the ideologues and perpetrators of aggression and genocide and does not contribute to peace and trust in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region, Europe and the world. This decision only continues the degradation of the work of this international legal institution, whose degradation degrades international law and order and thus threatens peace and stability in the world. 

The release of Ljubomir Borovčanin causes new fear among the surviving victims of the genocide in Srebrenica. Those who survived aggression and genocide twenty years ago are now reliving them.

Genocide researchers, members of the International Expert Team of the Institute for Genocide Research, Canada, raise their voices against this way of celebrating crime and state that they will fight against the legalisation of the results of aggression and genocide with all scientific research facts and means. The researchers call on the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia to fulfil its mission to the end of its mandate, which is based on delivering justice and warning future generations that the crime of aggression and genocide does not pay and will be sanctioned.
