IGK marks 14 years of work: Lobbying for truth, justice, culture of remembrance, for the state of BiH in Canada has been ongoing for over 20 years

(Patria) - The Institute for Research of Genocide Canada (IGK) is marking 14 years of work. Emir Ramić heads the IGK.

The most important task currently being handled by the IGK is the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on the genocide in Srebrenica. IGK's activities regarding the declaration of July 11th as the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide in Srebrenica have been ongoing for over 5 years. Members of the IGK's International Expert Team from more than 60 countries are engaged in this task. IGK has succeeded in lobbying for Canada to be one of the 22 countries sponsoring the Resolution in the United Nations General Assembly.

IGK Canada is marking 14 years of researching crimes against peace, genocide, and other grave breaches of international law, continuously and promptly responding to all attempts to deny final judgments on genocide in BiH and established historical, scientific, and judicial truths, while also implementing scientific research and educational projects dedicated to the development and preservation of the culture of remembrance.

The most significant results of lobbying for the interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Canada to date are: the Bosnian language has been recognized in Canada, the national name Bosniak is used in Canadian statistical and other documents, the genocide in BiH is studied in schools in Canada, and the Canadian Parliament has unanimously adopted two resolutions on the genocide in BiH.

The initiative to establish a Canada-Bosnia and Herzegovina Friendship Group in the Canadian Parliament has been supported, a permanent exhibition on the genocide in BiH has been organized at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, the genocide in BiH has been presented to Canadians and Canadian universities, a monument to the victims of genocide in Srebrenica has been unveiled in the Canadian city of Windsor, a project has been initiated whereby the Canadian government supported the observance of the World Day of White Ribbons, and a parliamentary petition seeking criminal sanctions for genocide deniers.
IGK has received a positive response for banning genocide denial on social media and stopping the awarding of orders to a denier of the genocide in Srebrenica, also from the President of Germany.

Lobbying for truth, justice, the culture of remembrance, and also for the state of BiH in Canada has been ongoing for over 20 years. It is particularly important that the Canadian government and parliament, and Canadian cities, appropriately mark BiH Statehood Day and BiH Independence Day, the World Day of White Ribbons, and the Day of Genocide in Srebrenica.

IGK thanks its members and friends around the world for 14 years of successful cooperation in the important mission of researching crimes against peace, genocide, and other grave breaches of international law, fighting against genocide deniers, glorifiers of convicted war criminals, revisionists of judicial, scientific, and historical facts about genocide, and developing an institutional culture of remembrance.
