IGK on Denial of Genocide in the Serbian Parliament: Jovanović Continues Towards Realising Karadžić and Mladić's Criminal Legacy

(Patria) - The Institute for Research on Genocide Canada has reacted to the statement of the President of the New Democratic Party of Serbia, Miloš Jovanović, who denied the genocide in Srebrenica in the Serbian Parliament.

"In his anti-civilisational, shameful, inhuman speech in the Serbian Parliament, Jovanović called for the adoption of a declaration on Srebrenica, which would confirm that genocide did not occur in Srebrenica, following the model of the declaration adopted by his party on 9 June 2024.

The denier of the genocide in Srebrenica, Jovanović, deliberately forgets that the greatest achievement of world international courts, national courts, and numerous resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, and especially this year's resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, is the judicial and political recognition of the genocide in Srebrenica. It has been established that the Bosnian Serbs, led by Mladić and Karadžić with the key support of the then Serbian regime, are guilty of genocide, which is crucial for historical understanding and uncovering both the nature of Republika Srpska as an entity based on genocide and the role of Serbia in the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Jovanović continues the criminal march towards realising the criminal legacy of Karadžić and Mladić at the expense of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Whoever denies the genocide in Srebrenica, whoever has no intention of distancing themselves from those who committed aggression and genocide, whoever has no intention of forcing all those who know the locations of mass graves to reveal them, whoever instead of seeking forgiveness and expressing repentance for the victims, celebrates and glorifies deniers of genocide and thus announces a new genocide, remains on the rubbish heap of history, incapable of cleansing his people of sin through the recognition of genocide and the seeking of forgiveness and repentance, which together with truth and justice constitute the only path to a better future for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.

To the denier of genocide, Jovanović, we say that the genocide in Srebrenica is definitely not a matter of his opinion or the opinion of the Serbian political, academic, and spiritual elite; it is a judicial, historical, political truth, that is, a historical fact recognised by the world.

Those who deny the decisions of international courts, who undermine international law, justice, and truth, who attempt to revise history, judicial and scientific arguments, and those who recently dangerously threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence, and political subjectivity of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the name of extremism, belong to the historical inhuman waste against which, unfortunately, we must fight even more today. We continue the struggle for a better future of our civilisation, for a world without war and genocide, where peace and respect for the other and the different will prevail, where truth will overcome falsehood, justice will overcome injustice, and the culture of remembrance will overcome the culture of forgetting.

Join that great human mission and withdraw your decision to award recognition to one of the greatest deniers of the genocide in Srebrenica in the world," states the IGK.
