Construction of bridge between BiH and Montenegro at Šćepan polje begins next year

(Patria) - Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina Edin Forto announced that BiH and Montenegro will begin construction of an interstate bridge over the Tara River at the Šćepan polje site next year.

After a meeting with Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs of Montenegro Filip Radulović, Forto stated that BiH is ready to support the Montenegrin initiative on the Adriatic-Ionian motorway, as well as the construction of a road from Montenegro to BiH via Pljevlja towards Čajniče and Goražde.

"We will continue cooperation and already next week in Skopje we will continue working meetings with the European Commission, after which a return visit to Podgorica will follow," said Forto.

Radulović emphasized that the construction of the bridge on the Tara will solve a decades-long infrastructure problem in that area and added that the construction of the Adriatic-Ionian motorway would contribute to greater economic growth in BiH and Montenegro.

He explained that the express road from Pljevlja towards Goražde would open a route from Sarajevo to the Bar - Boljare motorway, and thanked Minister Forto for fair cooperation and invited him for an official visit to Montenegro.

Head of the World Bank Office for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro Christopher Sheldon announced that this institution, together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, will financially support the infrastructural connection of the two countries.

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative Ambassador Johann Sattler emphasized that the Union will also support the connection of the two countries, for which there is a great need due to the poor state of existing infrastructure.

Minister of Transport and Communications of Republika Srpska Nedeljko Čubrilović welcomed the agreed projects and announced support for their implementation.
