The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) announced at the recently concluded Business Forum in Jeddah that it will revise its approach to financing infrastructure projects in the coming period. The IDB will from now on make decisions on financial investments based on the economic development in the debtor regions, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).
Such an approach will negatively affect financing in countries such as Mauritania, Western Sahara, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Bangladesh. This means that infrastructure projects will not be financed in places that do not have prospects for economic development.
As stated, the IDB will intensify its market research activities before making a decision on potential investment in order to ensure the stability of the financed projects.
Therefore, the Islamic Development Bank will hold training sessions for its researchers and project implementation unit (PIU) staff. The PIU will become a key link in approving IDB projects, and the standards and requirements are in line with the practices of other organizations, such as the World Bank, reports Patria.
