(Patria) - The Mayor of Trnovo Municipality, Ibro Berilo, has accepted a new mandate for this position, Faktor has confirmed from the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH).
Berilo signed the statement accepting the mandate on November 19, and it arrived at the CEC on November 22.
By a decision of the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo, Berilo was prohibited from performing the function of the municipal mayor, and the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina overturned the decision of the Cantonal Court and returned the case for a new decision.
Ibro Berilo's lawyer, Senad Pizović, told us that there is no new information and that he is awaiting the decision of the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo.
The court decision is not final, and the Election Law in Article 1.10 states that a person can lose their mandate if they are finally convicted of a prison sentence of six months or longer, which is not the case with Ibro Berilo, but the court made a decision based on other facts.
Ibro Berilo, although he was in custody, won against his opponent Bajro Lindov in this year's Local Elections, thus securing another term.
Berilo was arrested in the operation codenamed "Incitat" on August 5, along with Adis Mulaosmanović, Edin Džigal, and Nađa Milišić.
They are under investigation on suspicion of committing criminal offenses of association for the purpose of committing criminal offenses, abuse of position or authority, and money laundering, as prescribed by the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in connection with the construction of apartments on Bjelašnica.
