Although RS authorities do not recognize March 1st, BiH's independence cannot be delegitimized

March 1st is a pivotal historical moment of modern Bosnia and Herzegovina as it confirms Bosnia and Herzegovina's state, legal, political, and social existence and rise. This is a historical fact that has been scientifically and socially verified, reports the Patria News Agency. 

With the act of independence, Bosnia and Herzegovina politically re-established itself in the form of an independent state. On that day, more than 64 percent of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina answered affirmatively to the referendum question: "Are you for a sovereign and independent Bosnia and Herzegovina, a state of equal citizens and peoples?"

The referendum for the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held at the recommendation of the Arbitration Commission of the International Conference on Yugoslavia during the final phase of the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia. Therefore, the democratic nature of the act of gaining independence, as well as the character of the entire procedure – a democratic referendum – cannot be delegitimized in any way.

The referendum for the sovereignty and independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed its statehood, autonomy, and independence as the majority political option of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. By voting in the referendum, Bosnia and Herzegovina, for the first time since 1463, regained and achieved its full state capacity. With the act of the referendum and admission to the United Nations on April 6, 1992, it finally became a state in the full sense of the word. 

The authorities of the smaller entity still do not accept this historical date and scientifically verified fact. But the significance of this historical date and verified fact far exceeds daily anti-Bosnia and Herzegovina politics.

It is a historical and verified fact that on that day, Bosnia and Herzegovina became a member of the international community, the 177th internationally recognized member of the United Nations. This is an undeniable reality that anti-Bosnia and Herzegovina politics must reckon with, because this legal reality cannot be called into question, according to a statement from the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada, signed by director Emir Ramić.
