Zenica residents also took to protest: We young people have a duty, the elders should support us

(Patria) - Around a hundred citizens, mostly young people, gathered at today's protest in Zenica, organized in support of the youth movement in Sarajevo following the tragic tram accident. Although disappointed by the small number of citizens at the protest, they send a message: it is up to us to take care of this country.

Aida Delić, who came to the gathering with her peers, emphasizes that the main goal of today's rally is to support Sarajevo and its citizens, solidarity with those who suffered in the accident, but also with all victims of previous accidents in our country.

She believes that changes are necessary in BiH society, and that young people are the ones who should initiate them.

Although they expected more fellow citizens at the gathering today, they believe that if such rallies continue in the coming days and weeks, more people will join the movement.

Her colleague, Tarik Babić, emphasizes that "persistence is the only thing that will ensure we succeed".

"Zenica residents may not have gathered today, perhaps because the accident happened in Sarajevo, but we all know that it wasn't just the broken tram, but the entire system, and not just in Sarajevo, but in the country as a whole," he stated.

He also points out, "we young people have a duty, and the elders, if nothing else, have a need to support us in these moments and for all of us to stand together as Zenica residents".

When asked if the accident was necessary to initiate protests and if young people in BiH are actually lethargic, he answers:

"They are, but not by their choice, and not just young people, but others too. They don't have time, there are too many problems, they are focused on their survival, from the financial situation to all other problems that befall us. A tragedy was needed to jolt everyone out of that autopilot".

Gabirjela Kustura is another young woman from Zenica who came to the protest, and she told young people:

"We as young people, the whole country, but especially we young people, must become active, no one else will help us, we young people are the initiators".

She believes that young people have great power that they are not even aware of, and repeats: "we must become active and show how much we can do, how great our potential is".

Amina Muharemović and Uma Mešinović arrived at the protest together, holding banners.

They believe that change is possible, but that the beginning of any movement is the hardest.

"And we want something to change because everything rests on us and it will be up to us to take care of this country later," adds Amina.

Uma adds that young people actually have no hope and many think that someone else should do something for them, but she believes that this is wrong and that it is precisely young people who should influence change.
