Our sport is also a reflection in the mirror of the overall state of the country

Public reactions to last night's events in Mejdan, where the BiH basketball team experienced not only a sporting but also an even greater human defeat, are not subsiding. The scuffle between players hurt the fans more than the abysmal play and the loss itself. Because, it is human to lose, but to humiliate the BiH jersey and everyone in Mejdan is something that cannot be overlooked.

Patria fully conveys the opinion of Muamer Brekalo, a sports columnist who perhaps best explained what happened in Tuzla.

- Our sport has experienced a fiasco and hit rock bottom. We measure success by whether we qualified for something or if we were just a little short of qualifying.

Let's be realistic and honest and say that our sport is also a reflection in the mirror of the overall state of the country. Lack of competence, measures, and restraint. Superficiality and arrogance. Unwillingness to learn, to adopt new methods and trends, especially unwillingness to accept constructive criticism.

Admittedly, only a small number of competent people are capable of constructive criticism of the situation in BiH sports, mostly those whom the immature BiH public and the "mainstream" consider outsiders. A good portion of competent people do not want to have anything to do with the situation in BiH sports at all, aware of the quagmire we are in.

Last night's events in Mejdan are just a consequence of the existing practices and situations prevailing in our sport. Last night it was basketball, yesterday football, tomorrow it will be some other sport...

We need experts who, in addition to competence, will have the skill and the will to radically change the existing mentality, starting from etiquette, communication methods, understanding of hierarchy, to the way results are faced. Learning how to accept defeat, just as much as learning to remain composed in victory.

If we cannot win, if we do not know how to accept defeats with dignity and learn from them, at least let us not be ashamed of our country. At least do not disgrace us.
