Mostar Residents Show Support for the Palestinian People

(Patria) - Although the organizers cancelled the rally and the City of Mostar refused to grant permission for any public display of support for both Israel and Palestine, thousands of Mostar citizens gathered at Musala Square with Palestinian flags and banners to show their support for the Palestinian people.

Traffic in that part of the city has been blocked, and the gathering is being monitored by members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, reports Fena.

The Velež football club's fan group "Red Army" also confirmed their attendance. On their Facebook page, they wrote that all citizens of Mostar and Herzegovina should respond to the call for the rally so that their support can be a small encouragement for Palestine not to give up on the path of truth.

In addition to the protest rally, a humanitarian bazaar is also taking place, with all proceeds going to aid Palestine.

Incidentally, rallies in support of the Palestinian people were first held in Sarajevo, and similar events have been announced in several other Bosnian cities.

The Mayor of Mostar, Mario Kordić, previously stated that the City of Mostar refused to grant permission for any public display of support for both Israel and Palestine, believing that such actions create a negative atmosphere in the city.

"We will maintain this stance going forward; we will not encourage or support any public gatherings that could further destabilize our society.

Let us be sincerely compassionate and respect the victims of all wars, and let's stop building political careers based on cheap politicking," Kordić stated on social media.

Subsequently, the association of the Palestinian Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that, respecting laws and procedures and not wishing for the peaceful support rally to be politicized in any way, or for the aggression against the Palestinian people to be used for political purposes, they would withdraw their request.
