Citizens also confused: How to deal with the leptospirosis epidemic, an urgent solution needed for bulky waste disposal

(Patria) - At a press conference of the Public Health Institute of Sarajevo Canton held on Friday due to the outbreak of leptospirosis, an infectious disease transmitted by rodent urine, citizens and all relevant authorities were called upon to clean basements, attics, and remove waste that could be a breeding ground for rodents, and to mow overgrown areas. Although an epidemic was declared in the Sarajevo Canton area on Friday afternoon, the largest number of infected individuals are in the Dobrinja and Aerodromsko Naselje neighborhoods, with cases also reported in Alipašino Polje and the Centar municipality. These are the data presented by the Public Health Institute of Sarajevo Canton.

Citizens have started disposing of waste and bulky furniture, but KJKP Rad is protesting this situation. KJKP Rad collected piles of waste in the Dobrinja area yesterday, and after a few hours, new quantities of waste appeared around the containers.

And here we come to the absurdity. The responsible Institute, tasked with determining activities to combat the epidemic, is apparently not responsible for the activities of KJKP Rad. Because how else can we explain the criticism that KJKP Rad directs at citizens through social media, posting pictures of new waste quantities in a recently cleaned area.

"In light of the recent activities to remove illegal dumps in the Dobrinja, Saraj Polje, and Alipašino Polje neighborhoods, we note with deep concern the irresponsibility of some of our citizens regarding the improper disposal of bulky waste.
Just two hours after the waste and garbage were removed, new waste disposal was recorded in Trg djece Dobrinje street. Such behavior not only threatens the health and quality of life of citizens but also hinders our efforts to preserve a clean and orderly environment.

Unfortunately, that's not all; this morning, new waste that cannot be classified as household municipal waste appeared in as many as 10 locations that were cleaned yesterday. This problem requires an immediate and serious response from all of us. We appeal to every individual to take responsibility for their actions and dispose of waste in the prescribed manner," stated KJKP Rad.

They invited residents to record irresponsible individuals and send information in the following ways:

Eco phone: 033 66 00 00
Viber & WhatsApp: 062 220 330 (photo/video)
Facebook & Instagram: Share photos and videos

Otherwise, starting Monday, May 26, an action to clean the Novi Grad municipality will begin, which will be carried out in all nine municipalities of Sarajevo Canton. However, this action coincides with the leptospirosis epidemic.

KJKP Rad should clarify once again right now where citizens can dispose of bulky waste, considering that the spring collection of bulky waste has passed, and KJKP Rad employees cannot remove new quantities of bulky waste.
