Hurtić cancels travel orders for agents to Strasbourg: Will only Schmidt challenge the 'Kovačević v. BiH' judgment at the Grand Chamber?

(Patria) - Minister of Human Rights and Refugees Sevlid Hurtić has cancelled the travel orders for agents of the Office of the Agent of the Council of Ministers before the European Court of Human Rights who were supposed to appear in Strasbourg on November 20, when the hearing before the Grand Chamber in the case "Slaven Kovačević v. BiH" is scheduled.

Hurtić first signed the travel orders and then cancelled them. Incidentally, this is the first time that the Agent's Office has filed an appeal against a judgment of the European Court of Human Rights that the applicant won.

This appeal is the result of pressure from HDZ and SNSD, who, through their agents, filed an appeal with the Court in Strasbourg, although their legitimacy is questionable as their mandates have been extended as acting officials multiple times.

At today's session of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament, HDZ delegate Marina Pendeš demanded an answer from Minister Hurtić, whom she said she doesn't even know what he looks like.

"Why is the minister abusing his duty? Has it ever happened in the history of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees that agents were forbidden to represent BiH before the European Court of Human Rights?" Pendeš asked.

Earlier, Jasmin Emrić, a Member of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament, asked Hurtić a question precisely about these travel orders and the legitimacy of the agents.

A criminal complaint regarding the reappointment of Monika Mijić was filed by MP Zlatan Begić against all members of the Council of Ministers, including the current Chairwoman Borjana Krišto and former Chairman Zoran Tegeltija.

Begić stated in his report that Mijić has been appointed to the acting position for the fourth time, even though the law clearly states that as an acting appointment, it is possible only once for three months, or in extreme cases, twice. We will only find out later that it was more than four times!?

Precisely because of this, Emrić, in addition to Hurtić's response, also requested an opinion from the Legislative Office.

Kovačević complained that his active voting right is threatened, and the direct interference of the High Representative Christian Schmidt in this case, under the direct influence of official Zagreb, shows how important this judgment is for further political life in BiH. Schmidt is expected to be in Strasbourg on November 20, claiming he was "invited as a friend of the court," although the engagement of a British law firm and the letter he sent show not-so-friendly actions.

The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, during his address to the United Nations Security Council on the situation in our country, dedicated a special part of his address to the judgment in the "Kovačević" case.

Bećirović clearly stated that any pressure on the European Court of Human Rights is "unacceptable," especially in the context of the recent judgment on Slaven Kovačević's appeal.
