(Patria) - Minister of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Sevlid Hurtić, together with the head of the cabinet Jasmin Handžić, attended the celebration of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Statehood Day at the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center. At the Memorial and the cemetery for the victims of the 1995 genocide, they laid flowers, paying tribute to the innocent victims of the genocide.
The celebration of Statehood Day in Srebrenica carries special symbolism, as it combines the historical values of Bosnia and Herzegovina's statehood with a lasting reminder of the tragic events that marked its modern history.
„This day is an opportunity to remember the courage and determination of the generations that shaped our state. At the same time, the memory of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica obliges us to build a society founded on justice and truth. Statehood Day reminds us of the strength of our state, but also of our responsibility towards future generations,“ said Hurtić.
The minister emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the genocide victims and continuous commitment to the protection of human rights, as well as the promotion of reconciliation and coexistence in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bosnia and Herzegovina's Statehood Day is celebrated in memory of November 25, 1943, when the statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina as an equal community of all its peoples was confirmed at the session of ZAVNOBiH. Hurtić pointed out that this date has special significance in preserving the identity and unity of our state, especially in the context of remembering the greatest crime committed on European soil after World War II.
At the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, which symbolizes the fight against oblivion and denial of genocide, Minister Hurtić reiterated his commitment to preserving the memory of the victims and building a society where justice and equality for all will prevail.
