Hurtić: Urgently protect employees of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center

(Patria) - The Minister of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sevlid Hurtić, strongly condemns the threats that employees of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center have been receiving in recent days, following the publication of the Report on the Denial of Genocide.

"I demand that the authors of the Report be protected, as their safety is threatened in a city that, I remind you, is a sacred place for all Bosniaks. I consider such behavior towards people who defend truth from oblivion, and especially the memory of the victims who innocently lost their lives in the adjudicated genocide against Bosniaks in a UN protected zone, to be unacceptable."

Minister Hurtić reminds that returnees in the Republika Srpska entity are daily exposed to severe insults and attacks, and that it is high time to prohibit such situations and start punishing perpetrators.

"We must not forget that thanks to the courage of the employees of the Potočari Memorial Center, led by Director Emir Suljagić, future generations are learning about the importance of conveying the truth about how entire families disappeared in just a few days. It is completely unacceptable that the survivors of the greatest crime in Europe after the Holocaust are today facing new threats for spreading the truth.

I call on the entire public to give strong support to the leadership and employees of the Memorial Center, which is mostly composed of survivors, but also descendants of genocide victims, and who today mostly live with their families in Podrinje.

With their hard work, they have placed the most important memorial institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina on par with the world's greatest memorials."

Finally, Minister Hurtić reminds that the cases of attacks on returnees in Višegrad and Bratunac, which occurred in the past few months, have not yet been clarified.
