Croats complain about excessive arrivals of doctors from BiH

This morning, Croatian media reported that since Croatia's entry into the European Union, 923 doctors have requested documentation to work abroad, while at the same time only 135 have expressed interest in coming, mostly doctors from BiH and Serbia who hold Croatian citizenship, index.hr learns from the Croatian Medical Chamber (HLK).

They note that the shortage of healthcare staff cannot be solved by “foreign labor” because the interest of doctors from other countries to come and work in Croatia is much lower, so, according to the Chamber's data, since joining the EU, only 135 doctors have requested recognition of foreign professional qualifications.

Among them, more than 60 percent are Croatian citizens who studied in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. In most cases, doctors who have not yet completed their specialization are interested in coming.

The Chamber explains this by the complex procedure of recognizing professional qualifications acquired in third countries, which, they say, is why a large number of doctors bypass us and go to work in other EU member states.
