Before the speech, a minute of silence was held for those killed in last week's horrific terrorist attack on Paris.

He also stressed that France will intensify its attacks in Syria, which he called "the largest factory of terrorists the world has ever seen".

Hollande added that the French are a strong people who will not allow terrorism to develop on their territory.

- This is not a war of civilizations, because the killers do not represent any civilization. In these difficult and challenging times, we must continue to be guided by our values - unity and dignity, he emphasized.

He also said that the terrorist attacks were planned in Syria and launched from Belgium with help from France, and that France has asked the UN Security Council to urgently adopt a resolution on the fight against terrorism.
