Will BiH take over the care of migrants, foreign organizations sent a letter to Nešić and other institutions

(Patria) - The Council of Ministers of BiH at today's session should also consider the Proposal for a Decision on the establishment of a Working Group for the preparation of a transition plan in the management of migration, temporary reception centers, from international organizations to the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In a letter sent by the International Organization UNHCR to the Minister of Security of BiH, Nenad Nešić, his attention was drawn to the need for a comprehensive plan for the transition in the management of migration and asylum from international organizations to BiH institutions. The letter was published a few days ago by the portal Fokus, after the tragedy on the Drina River when 12 migrants, including a mother and baby, drowned.

The UNHCR letter states that a comprehensive plan should also include the provision of all services currently available to migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees in BiH, especially in reception centers. It is reminded that UHCR presented a document with a coordination model to the Ministry of Security last year.

However, the letter emphasizes, the proposal submitted by the Ministry of Security to the Council of Ministers for the adoption of a decision on the establishment of an interdepartmental working group for the preparation of a transition plan in the management of migration from international organizations to BiH institutions focuses on the management of temporary reception centers, and does not cover all services provided to the users of the centers, nor all aspects related to asylum and international protection.

BiH authorities have relied on foreign organizations, the EU, and other organizations willing to provide funds in the case of the migrant crisis, but BiH should take over the care of migrants.

The UNHCR letter was also received by other competent institutions.

It should be particularly noted that migrants are accommodated in two centers in Sarajevo (Ušivak and Blažuj), and in Bihać. The exact number of migrants staying in BiH varies between several thousand, and incidents and mutual conflicts are frequent.

The last such case occurred on Monday in Sarajevo, and one migrant died.
