Urgently resolve the issue of retirement for police officers residing in the RS

Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektić received today in Sarajevo representatives of police officers of Bosnia and Herzegovina whose employment ended due to retirement, and who, due to different legislation at the entity level, cannot exercise this right, reports the Patria news agency.  

 

These are police officers of state-level agencies residing in the Republic of Srpska, who have completed 40 years of service, but have not reached 65 years of age, which is a condition for old-age retirement under the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance of the Republic of Srpska.

The police officers emphasized that their livelihood is threatened due to this discrimination, and they have therefore initiated court proceedings, and are planning to file an appeal with the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Minister Mektić, supporting the demands of the police officers, offered concrete proposals on how to resolve this problem as quickly as possible, i.e., to amend the disputed provisions in the current Law on Police Officers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, thereby simultaneously resolving the status of police officers whose employment has already ended, as well as those who are yet to retire on this basis, the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
