Patient pathways must be urgently prescribed, as the situation on the ground is not good

SARAJEVO; (Patria) - The KS healthcare system is preparing to accept and treat a larger number of Co 19 infections, notes Dr. Dragan Stevanović, and appeals to the Ministry of Health regarding the decision to postpone medical services that do not directly endanger the life and health of patients, which is medically correct.

“However, there are services that cannot be postponed, such as all acute conditions and conditions that require the completion of initiated medical interventions, e.g., suture removal, cast removal, treatment of a dehydrated child and other patients. Such patients are referred by their family doctor to a hospital institution, and then their ordeal begins.

They wait for triage at the entrance to the hospital, only to be told and written down when their turn comes that they are not doing that now, then they queue for triage at another hospital, they don't do that either, then they go back to the family doctor, who also doesn't do it, he is not competent.

All these waits in front of healthcare institutions for triage are an additional risk for the spread of Co 19 infection.

Hospital directors, whoever they may be, cannot make decisions about what they will and will not do in this situation. The Minister of Health of KS must, I repeat, must, by executive order, prescribe the patient pathway, and there can be no deviation from that,” stated Dr. Stevanović.
