Thousands of people bid farewell to Monteno: With the song 'Sarajevo, My Love', Kemo laid to rest

Kemal Monteno was buried to the lyrics of „Sarajevo, My Love“ and laid to rest in the Alley of the Greats at Bare Cemetery, reports the Patria news agency. The funeral was delayed because many wanted to pay their respects to the beloved Monteno. An honor guard alternated beside Monteno's coffin for a long time, as family, friends, and acquaintances wished to be close to Kemo one last time.

Rade Šerbadžija recited poems by Kemal Monteno.

- I am doing this for the people from Vardar to Triglav. You were a hero who never gives up. Your music warms our hearts and souls - said Rade Šerbedžija, among other things, who experienced everything very emotionally and left the funeral sobbing.

Words can hardly describe the emotions among the thousands of people who bid farewell to their Kemo, who gave them one of the greatest hits ever, „Sarajevo, My Love“. Besides family, many famous artists, singers, athletes, and ordinary citizens today said their last "goodbye" and "you will live forever in our hearts".

Among the numerous citizens was the former coach of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team, Safet Sušić, who, like most of those present, did not hide his tears, and was in the company of the Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kemal Kozarić. Before the funeral itself, a commemoration was held at the Sarajevo National Theatre.

Much sorrow and tears, but also pride that he was part of this city, were shown by the people of Sarajevo, because Kemo was one of them. And he gave his soul to them, his fellow citizens, and the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Kemo, may the Sarajevo earth rest lightly upon you, and may you rest in eternal peace.
