Thousands of anti-fascists pay tribute to participants of the Igman March on Igman

IGMAN, (Patria) - A large international anti-fascist manifestation is being held today on Igman on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the "Igman March". Numerous delegations of anti-fascist associations laid flowers at the central monument and paid tribute to the participants of the First Proletarian Brigade. Participants in today's commemoration arrived from all countries of the former Yugoslavia.

The central manifestation was held at Veliko Polje, where, along with appropriate addresses, a joint lunch was also organized.

As every year, thousands of anti-fascists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Macedonia gathered on Igman today, carrying Yugoslav flags and slogans in honor of the First Proletarian Brigade.

On the night of January 27, 1942, the march was carried out by the First Proletarian Brigade in harsh winter conditions at a temperature of minus 32 degrees. At the end of January 1942, after clashes at Pjenovac and Bijele Vode, the First Proletarian Brigade found itself surrounded on Romanija by strong German-Ustasha forces, after which the staff decided to carry out a dangerous but only possible movement. The goal was to pass near Sarajevo, across Igman, towards liberated Foča. Data on the number of participants in the march are incomplete, ranging from 500 to 700 partisans.
