Hero of the Drina: Authorities should help the girl we saved

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Denis Peca Rašidović, one of the young men who saved a minor girl from the icy waters of the Drina, who wanted to take her own life, posted on his Facebook profile. To everyone who calls them heroes these days, offering rewards, he said that it is more important now to help the girl, but also to finally raise awareness about the protection of the Drina River. Humble as only a hero can be, Rašidović reiterated that the rescuers' act was just a moment of courage.

- This was just a moment of courage to save a young life, of which there are fewer and fewer in our city and our beautiful BIH, which people are unfortunately massively leaving without looking back. This is precisely why some people do such things, because they only see the path to Europe, or the path to the bridge. When you see that sight, when she tells you, wrapped up, frozen, stiff, with eyes full of joy, full of life, and says you gave me a new chance, a new birth, writes Rašidović, explaining that the girl's gratitude is the greatest reward.

Every young life that remains in the city is a certificate and an order for him, and everything else is less important.

- This should also be a serious alarm to the authorities and all of us to get active, because there is no place better than one's own, and everyone is leaving because of money. Germany, Austria, etc., etc., do not have beech trees, they do not have the Drina that we have. which we must all protect, because it will soon be gone for us too!!! - Rašidović said.

He thanked his colleagues Ahmed Fazlić, Armin Charlie Čavrk, Haris Fidahić, Edin Selak, and all police officers who contributed to saving the girl. He also thanked those who took off their clothes to warm them up after getting out of the cold water, as well as the doctors and medical staff who, as he says, kindly received them. Rašidović especially thanked one man, the one who saw the girl jump into the river.

- Do good deeds and stop the bad comments, of which there were unfortunately many that night, but I will omit them, they don't deserve attention. The girl's name is Lejla Srna, we all need to help her now, anyone who is willing can provide help in any way, said Rašidović.

He told his fellow citizens that the Drina is their home and that they should protect it, because it will repay them, just as they repaid him when they saved the girl.
