Hero of the Defense of Sarajevo: 25 years since the death of Ramiz Salčin

A sniper bullet fired from the direction of Nedžarići was fatal on August 22, 1992, for Ramiz Salčin, writes the Patria agency.

The commander of the Municipal Staff of the Territorial Defense of Novi Grad Sarajevo died in the then settlement of Vojničko Polje, today's Saraj Polje, while defending Sarajevo.

As commander of the Territorial Defense Staff, he was present at all fronts in the Novi Grad area, from the battle of Žuč, Mojmilo, Dobrinja, all the way to Nedžarići. 

He was posthumously awarded the highest wartime recognition "Golden Lily" and the Order of the Liberation War "Golden Coat of Arms with Swords" in 1994. He was buried in the Kovači Martyrs' Cemetery.

Today, a sports hall, a street, and a square in Sarajevo bear his name. 

Ramiz Salčin was born on May 13, 1954, in Gacko.
