Helicopters of the Armed Forces of BiH reinforce firefighting efforts at Tjentište

(Patria) - The activities of the BiH Armed Forces helicopter crews in extinguishing the fire at Tjentište continue today, August 13, 2024, with reinforced engagement of two helicopters from the Air Force and Anti-Aircraft Defence Brigade.

The fire in Sutjeska National Park threatened the Foča – Gacko road communication, but the BiH Armed Forces helicopters have suppressed the fire over a larger area, and it is expected that the fire site, which has been active for a long time, will be brought under control during the day.

Yesterday, the Minister of Defence of BiH, Zukan Helez, visited the members of the Air Force and Anti-Aircraft Defence Brigade (Air Force and AA Defence Brigade) engaged in extinguishing the forest fire at the Tjentište location, Foča municipality. On that occasion, he conducted a reconnaissance flight over the fire site with the crew of the 2nd Helicopter Squadron of the Air Force and AA Defence Brigade and saw for himself the situation at the fire site, which has been partially brought under control.

After assessing the situation, Minister Helez praised the efforts and exceptional contribution of the helicopter crews in their engagement so far, and expressed his views on firefighting in Bosnia and Herzegovina to the media.

"It is very important to exhaust our own resources for firefighting, and only then seek international assistance," stated Minister Helez on this occasion.

Also yesterday, the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lieutenant General Gojko Knežević, visited the members of the Air Force and AA Defence Brigade and familiarized himself with the situation on the ground and the contribution of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the coming period, the helicopters of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina will remain available to provide assistance to the civilian population in extinguishing fires. Their constant readiness and engagement in crisis situations confirm the importance of joint efforts in protecting people and property, and ensuring security and stability throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
