(Patria) - Delegates of the HDZ of BiH in the Club of Croats in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH reacted strongly to the erection of a monument to General of the Army of BiH Mehmed Alagić, claiming that it "humiliates Croatian victims".
"We, the delegates of the HDZ of BiH who constitute the majority in the Club of Croats in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, most strongly condemn yesterday's unveiling of the monument 'General Mehmed Alagić - Ljiljan Ljuta greda' on Vlašić. The erection of a monument to General of the Army of RBiH, indicted for war crimes Mehmed Alagić, is a direct humiliation of Croatian victims, especially in Central Bosnia, who have not yet received justice. Not convicted of war crimes, Alagić and members of the Army of RBiH, which included numerous fighters from Islamic countries, committed ritual killings in this municipality of Central Bosnia, shot captured civilians and soldiers, such as the group at Bikoši, desecrated the ancient Franciscan Monastery in Guča Gora, and committed numerous other crimes," the HDZ club stated.
They emphasize that this is an insult to the victims while "the rights of Croats in BiH are collectively violated" and that "the organization of defense of BiH at the very beginning of the war through the Croatian Defence Council is being presented to the public as a crime through manipulation and lies".
They were particularly bothered by the participation of the BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić at the monument unveiling.
"The act of erecting a monument to General Alagić, indicted for war crimes by command responsibility, was also attended by the BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić, from the ranks of the Army of RBiH, who, by his presence, graced the shameful event on Vlašić. Can anyone in their right mind call a man who celebrates the executioner of his own people a representative of that same people!? The usurper of the political rights of the Croatian people in BiH came to mock the Croatian victims in Central Bosnia," the HDZ club's statement reads.
They state that they expect a reaction from international representatives as well.
"And as long as the organizers and promoters of such events, where double standards are applied in relation to those indicted and convicted of war crimes, do not understand this, building lasting peace and coexistence in BiH will be impossible because the mentioned processes primarily require equal treatment and respect for every victim, as well as abandoning very harmful processes for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the context of seizing political rights and imposing collective responsibilities. On the occasion of this event, the public, as well as innocent victims, also expect a reaction from international representatives," the reaction from the Club of Croats in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH concludes.
