HDZ's strongest asset in the diaspora turns its back

The 11th electoral unit, which includes Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora, has so far been largely taken for granted as three safe seats for the HDZ. That was also the case in the November elections, when the HDZ won all three seats without much trouble, securing 24,444 votes, or 85.69 percent of the vote, writes Index.hr, as reported by Patria. 

Bandić's party, from which some expectations were held, won only 1,226 votes in the diaspora at the time. In third place was Most, which won only 1,111 votes. 

By far the most votes among HDZ members in the November elections was won by Željko Glasnović. With 7,374 votes, or 30.17 percent, he managed to enter the Parliament, even though he was only in seventh place on the list, and three seats led to the Parliament. 

Glasnović then endeared himself to voters with his right-wing views, and in his pre-election spot he called for the overthrow of the rule of the "communist UDBA caliphate," which, presumably, was Milanović's government. 

However, Glasnović is not on the HDZ list for the early elections, but is the frontrunner on his own independent list. The HDZ list, on the other hand, is led by Božo Ljubić, who was also the list holder last time, but despite that, he won only 2,936 votes, or 12 percent. That is significantly less than Glasnović, against whom he will now compete for votes. 

Glasnović, under the motto "The general that Croats trust," is already running a personalized campaign in the diaspora. The list led by Glasnović is supported by all right-wing options in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including, in addition to right-wing options, HDZ 1990 and HKDU-Hrast, as well as part of wartime associations, which also supported the general in the previous Croatian parliamentary elections.
If he manages to attract again the votes that preferentially circled him, Glasnović could "snatch" at least one seat from the HDZ in the September elections, if not more, writes Index.
