Minister of Human Rights and Refugees Semiha Borovac held a working meeting today with representatives of the Association "Women - Victims of War", where key problems faced by this association in its work, as well as models for strengthening cooperation between the Ministry and associations gathering civilian victims of war, were discussed, it was announced from the relevant ministry, reports the Patria News Agency.
Minister Borovac emphasized that she approaches the issues of civilian victims of war with special reverence, especially victims of the most heinous form of war crime – rape and sexual abuse. In that context, she stressed that associations like "Women - Victims of War" play a special role, which in previous years, through active work, has significantly contributed to war crimes trials based on the testimonies of raped and abused women.
- The association and the women who, after surviving rape and abuse, found the strength to testify and thus make the most concrete contribution to justice and reconciliation in our country, must feel that they are not alone – stated Minister Borovac.
The president of the Association "Women - Victims of War", Bakira Hasečić, stated that despite its importance and achieved results, the Association functions on the edge of existence. At the same time, Hasečić added, a particular problem is the fact that numerous multi-million international projects are currently being implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which address the issues of civilian victims of war, but the victims are ultimately not among the final beneficiaries of these funds or assistance, according to the statement.
