Chaos in Dalmatia: Šibenik flooded, alarming situation also in Dubrovnik surroundings

This morning, the consequences of the stormy weather that raged through Dalmatia all night are visible. Thus, writes the portal Šibenik.in, the Šibenik waterfront is flooded, and the situation is no better in Vodice and Tribunj, where the road connecting these two places was closed last night. Firefighters had about 115 technical interventions pumping out houses, apartments, basements, garages, and cellars, reports the Patria news agency.

-Our fire units, both public and volunteer, have been on the ground since last night, and services are cleaning up and trying to normalize the situation this morning. I must say that this time the citizens were also more prepared, which makes it easier for everyone, although large amounts of precipitation fell, which are impossible to predict and thus be completely prepared for, but it is still easier, commented Branka Juričev Martinčev, the mayor of Vodice.

Over one hundred liters of rain per square meter fell in the Šibenik area in just two hours, and road workers, utility workers, and firefighters spent the entire night on the ground. However, with this amount of precipitation, it is simply impossible to fight.

The island of Murter was also cut off from the mainland all night, and heavy rainfall is also forecast for today over most of the Adriatic.

The scale of the storm is best illustrated by the fact that a young man ended up in the emergency room due to a lightning strike. Namely, as Šibenski Portal writes, the young man was at the bus station shortly after 8 PM last night when lightning struck a nearby tree. The force of the impact shattered the glass at the station, and the dazed young man ended up in the emergency room.

Significant material damage was also recorded in the municipality of Tisno. Several vessels were submerged, and several family houses are threatened due to the activation of groundwater. As everywhere else, firefighters are constantly on the ground trying to repair the damage.

The entire waterfront in Slano, as reported by Dubrovački dnevnik, is flooded, causing chaos in the town. The flooding occurred due to the rising sea level, and there are shops and a post office on the waterfront. Firefighters are on the ground, opening manholes, clearing branches, and carrying out other actions to bring the situation under control as soon as possible. However, the rain continues to fall relentlessly, which is not a good sign at all, writes Index.
