Hammond: Some individuals tried to destroy the dignity of the commemoration

British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond commented on today's events in Potočari, where the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide was marked. He expressed disappointment and concern over what happened today during the Day of Remembrance for the Srebrenica genocide, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

- People from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region and the international community gathered today in Potočari to pay tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and the victims on all sides in the conflicts in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

I particularly welcome the fact that the Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, attended the commemoration in Srebrenica and condemn the way in which some individuals tried to destroy the dignity of today's commemoration. We must not allow their actions to distract us from the feeling shared by the majority, which is that the states and peoples of the Western Balkans should move forward through reconciliation and cooperation - stated Hammond, announced by the British Embassy in Sarajevo.

Many other European officials condemned the attack on Vučić, offering him support.
