Halilović: Marking the joint holiday of the RS and Serbia is a legal and political aggression against BiH that calls Dayton into question

(Patria) - Serbia's attitude towards BiH is not neighborly and as it should be. Its parallel relations with the BiH entity RS have become even more evident after the "All-Serb Assembly", where even stronger integration of Serbs in the region was announced.

Former diplomat and professor Enver Halilović spoke about Serbia's attitude towards BiH, as well as current political developments in our country, on the show '7plus' on Hayat television last night.

- The situation is quite difficult and very serious. It seems to me that one period of Serbian and Serbia's policy towards BiH has ended, and a different and new one is opening.

This needs to be viewed through the fact of the formation of the government and the removal of SNSD from power at the BiH level. It also needs to be viewed in the context of overall international politics, and especially in the context of Donald Trump's unpredictable policy towards Europe, and particularly towards the Balkans.

This is a serious political moment in BiH and political actors, i.e., the elite, must be aware of this fact and find an appropriate serious response. No improvisation should be allowed - Halilović points out.

A joint meeting, i.e., celebration of Sretenje (Candlemas) of the BiH entity RS and Serbia has been announced. Halilović says this is the realization of the "All-Serb Assembly" aimed at the annexation of the BiH entity RS, i.e., its unification with Serbia.

- Dodik and Vučić are in a similar situation. Especially because the end of Dodik's political career is very evident. He has exhausted all possible forms of aggressive behavior towards BiH, all the while being supported by the Serbian regime, as well as by Putin and right-wing politicians in Europe.

Sretenje for BiH is not a civic holiday, but a religious one. It is a connection with the army from the Balkan wars, after which we did not experience liberation in the first Yugoslavia compared to the Ottoman era.

Celebrating the joint holiday of the RS and Serbian armies is a kind of practical implementation of the "All-Serb Assembly" declaration, a kind of annexation act of the RS by Serbia. It is a political and legal annexation of the RS, i.e., the unification of the RS with Serbia.

This is something that, unfortunately, has not been adequately condemned either in BiH or in the international community. This is effectively a legal and political aggression against BiH that directly calls the Dayton Agreement into question - Halilović believes.

He emphasizes that even if Dodik leaves the political scene of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he will remain an important factor in the RS.

- He will continue to be a factor in the RS, which will be a serious obstacle in state institutions. Our political elite must understand that law, i.e., legal order, is one level of regulating relations, and politics is another.

Politics cannot always be constrained by the legal order, especially if it is not ethical. Laws cannot be the final turning point for political activity - Halilović added.
