Hadžović: Young generations of Bosnians living abroad often hide their origin

Most of our young people I met in Sweden don't know where they were born, they are not interested in it, they pretend to be someone else. Maybe it's because of youth, I don't know. Probably, after years pass, the time will come when the desire to come here will pull them – says young BiH actor Muhamed Hadžović for the Patria news agency.

Together with the greats of BiH theatre Emir Hadžihafizbegović, Admir Glamočak, Sabina Bambur, Amar Selimović, Sabit Sejdinović, and Dragan Jovičić, he performed the play “U Zvorniku ja sam ostavio svoje srce” (I Left My Heart in Zvornik) in ten Swedish cities last month. Based on the text of one of the most famous BiH writers, Abdulah Sidran, the play talks about the very beginning of the aggression against BiH, about the painful ordeal that people from eastern Bosnia went through just because of the difference in their first and last names. About hope and despair. Although performed many times before, it always leaves the audience breathless.

The audience in Sweden, Hadžović says, also showed an excellent reaction to the play. It is gratifying that not only Bosniaks showed emotions, but Serbs and Croats reacted equally, as well as Swedes who were able to follow the play through translation.

- I think the play “U Zvorniku ja sam ostavio svoje srce” came at the right time and place. Because, there is a conflict of generations happening there, now is the time when generations of people from these regions are diverging. The first generation knows where they came from and does not want to forget the suffering that happened in BiH, but younger generations often run away from it. In fact, many of them watched the play only because their parents forced them to – says Hadžović.

- You have people who know the situation in BiH better than people born here, I hope that will change – Hadžović tells Patria.
