Hadžikadić: Positive Change Through Civic Activism

Prof. Dr. Mirsad Hadžikadić, candidate for the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has expressed support for the growing activism of citizens in BiH.

- Activism and freedom of expression through legal methods and without disturbing public order and peace are among the basic postulates of democracy that are, unfortunately, insufficiently used in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Civic activism creates positive pressure on the ruling structures to remind those in power that their actions must serve the purpose of improving the quality of life of the residents and society as a whole.

I welcome the wave of civic activism that has been occurring recently, starting with veterans' demonstrations and protests over the unresolved deaths of young men in Sarajevo and Banja Luka, to the disproportionate increase in fuel prices in the country. I see these protests exclusively as a justified expression of the growing movement of dissatisfaction among our citizens.

Some of these protests have already borne fruit, so we see announcements from the relevant minister that fuel prices will be reduced as early as Friday. Even some parties currently in power have reacted by calling for a reduction in fuel prices. It is evident that the pressure from citizens is working. They must be actively involved in all spheres of political decision-making regarding the development of society in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Only in this way can the state ensure a path towards progress - Hadžikadić believes.

Professor Hadžikadić called on the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to express their activism and civic responsibility in the October elections as well, to show their stance on the current situation in the country and possible ways out of it, and to be part of positive changes.
